What happened to conviction in actions?
I just turned Rush Limbaugh off - sorry, I just turned Mark Belling off. Why? Because he has no conviction, and answers with that wishy-washy “I don’t know if…” dodge.
C’mon! This guy doesn’t believe in going after the employers?! What happened to ethics in business? If you are an employer and you hire illegal aliens, you are aiding and abeting. Plain and simple. It is wrong!
And, sheesh, why is everyone so afraid of ethics?
And Mark, are your hospitals closing all their emergency rooms because they are losing their shirts up there in Wisconsin?! You are the problem, not me, you have missed the point completely. Our system is under siege and you have walked away ’cause you think you are being nice to these people.
I’ve got one thing to say to you, Mark. We in California voted for Prop 187. When the courts went after us, all you other sidelines/armchair Americans let us swing in the wind. We had a solution, we voted for it, and it passed, ON THE LEFT COAST! And when the ACLU and the courts went after us, where were all of you to help?
And, here’s what it sounded like out here, uttered by the oposition

Well, welcome to all of you that now know what we voted for so long ago. The Fox is still in the hen house, and now he’s coming after your eggs.
There is a solution to get things going. The Senate bill is a mistake. Instead of bending over and takin’ it ’cause of “White Guilt”, just take the time to realize we can put one thing in a bill at a time. Just do a bill with the fence in it, only. Then, put up the bill on amnesty (which you ARE for!), and yes, it is amnesty and it is wrong. Placing 11 million people more onto the Social Security system in one drop, ’cause it’ll make you feel better!

I’ve hesitated adding my two cents here, Steve, for obvious reasons. Obvious if you read EIP, I should add. And I know you do (read EIP).
In this and your previous posts, you’ve invoked Reagan. I stand behind no man when it comes to respect, admiration, and yeah, love, for Reagan. He is one of my heroes, pure and simple. That said, I’m not sure you’d like what Reagan might do about our immigration problem, were he were alive today. After all, in his Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, Ronald Reagan made 4 million illegals eligible for legal residency. This article in Reason magazine is a pretty good synopsis of the argument we moderate conservatives are making. And you’ll note the article is two and a half years old. Which brings me to another point…
Dubya has been entirely consistent in his position on immigration. Note the date on the linked article: July 17, 2001. And Dubya has actually done something about the problem, or at least he’s tried to do something.
There are many points we agree on: (1) Secure the borders. (2) Build a freaking fence, if that’s what it takes. (3) End the ridiculous “catch and release” practices. But deportation of illegals and draconian prison sentences for those hiring illegals? I can’t go there. And there’s no real reason to go there…
We can fix this problem, and we can begin fixing it by working together in the spirit of compromise, because, when you come right down to it, politics IS compromise. Take half a loaf now, and continue to press for what you really need. Inflammatory rhetoric and running around with your hair on fire may make you feel good, but it doesn’t solve the problem.

Buck, it’s true, Reagan gave amnesty, and I hated it then too. And, if I was able to speak to him now, he’d get the same ear-full from me!
He also, I might add, would have changed on 9/11 too. I suspect he would be even less, soft, on our problem. He did not back down, and he never wavered. He has been, and always will be, the best President I have ever seen.
Take note, I did not say that Bush is not convicted in his actions. He is, and does, stick to his guns. And when he began the “unholy” pact with Vicente Fox before he was elected the first time, I felt a slap in the face.
I still voted for him, and I still will. He is a good man. But, I believe that he is not affected by the wholesale destruction of our hospitals, schools, and overall well being.
And, for those of you that do have to experience the real situations in the regular hospital systems know of what I speak. Those of you that have to look at your particular local schools scores, well, ‘nuf said.
I’ll check out the article you posted above (haven’t gotten to it yet). And, I know, Buck, that you know I am in no way a moderate Republican. I do respect your history and your experiences. I love to read about the way you and your son watch (or experience) hockey games!!!
I luv ya man, but we are forever going to differ on who should get a “celebrity smack-down” for aiding and abeting. Morals, ethics, and laws are something that we all must respect and follow to continue to have a free society. And those that perform or enable illegal acts must suffer the consequences.
If I were hiring illegals, I deserve to be punished. Plain and simple.
And, as for shippin’ ‘em all home, I never said that … at least not in this post. I’ll go back and look in my other posts. I’m not adverse to it, and I don’t care how hard it is. But I believe that DIS-incentives can rectify the problem without upsetting the entire applecart.
IMHO … well, obviously it’s mine, ’cause this is my blog …

Thanks for taking my comment in the spirit it was intended, Steve. The fact that we can discuss and disagree seperates us from the moonbats. If this were dKos or MyDD, I’d be shouted down and run out of town on a rail for daring to disagree with the “conventional wisdom.”
And, as for shippin’ ‘em all home, I never said that … at least not in this post. No, you didn’t, and you probably haven’t, ever. I’ve heard the argument before in other forums. At my age I’m also easily confused.
I’m just now getting back into the blogosphere … Understand. I hope your Dad is doing as well as he can do. You and your immediate family, too. All the Best.
