I was gonna try to stretch this one out …
But, 47 days is long enough.
I have been trying to test when my overall traffic would fall off based on inactivity on my part. I noticed that no matter how hard I worked on my posts, I kept a steady state of 12-18 hits per day. That’s OK, but I was losing a ton of sleep - and with a new job that requires travel, well, blogging was getting tough for the return.
Then, a few family things happened, and I had to stop blogging.
I began to watch the numbers day to day.
Of course, hits per day fell to about 10-12 … hmmm … they started to climb. Huh … ???
I have been averaging 30-35 hits per day the last 30 days. I have not posted - been itchin’ to post, but, had to stick to my guns and watch traffic. Kept growing from 10-12 -to- 30-35 … no ’splain’in … as Desi used to say to Lucy!
Also, TTLB and Technorati weren’t sufferin’ too bad either. What on earth is goin’ on …
More to come, I think. Maybe this post will make my numbers … fall … ???

TTLB and Technorati are both screwed up right now, not reading anything correctly… http://texasfred.net/archives/89
I blasted Bear over his and sent a note to Technorati asking them what was up, got no response from that one either…
I hope all is well, if you ever want back in on the U.N. blog, let me know…

Missed ya, been thinking about you. While life is keeping me too busy to do a lot of meaningful blogging, I do manage to check in here every so often looking for something new from you. TTLB at least has a notice up now that things are being worked on. I noticed I get a lot more hits lately just from web searches, especially Google. Some days when I get a lot of hits I go looking for who linked to me today, and it’s almost entirely all web search hits, no unusual links.

I was wondering about your absence, too. Didn’t stop me from checking in every so often, tho!
I have “issues” with TTLB, as well. I’m a frickin’ “micro-organism,” yet there are dead blogs (i.e., no posts in a year) that are classed as reptiles and above. That doesn’t seem to make a whole lotta sense to me… I know Bear’s ratings are link-driven and not traffic dependent, but still…
So…welcome back! You were missed, Steve.

Hey Everyone! Yep, it’s been a very hectic last month or two. All kinds of stuff has been going whacky … but, hey, what in life doesn’t have the whacky-factor!?
Well, since TTLB is free, I have no qualms - it’s just been a test to see what has been happening if I do not do anything.
And, funnier: my hits have been going down … weird, eh?

Never try to explain life, Fix, just go with it. My hits went through the roof for a while. Almost all of it was links to cartoons I posted a long time ago. I have no idea why, and I don’t care. Every once in a while someone thanks me for blogging. That’s good enough for me.
Oh, BTW, my hits have dropped dramatically recently, so maybe it’s just a trend for all blogs, not just you. Who knows?

I’m not sure about Technorati, but the TTLB Ecosystem is overrated. For example, I get more traffic than some who are at the same Large Mammal level than I am. And my traffic has greatly increased this last year. I’m averaging between 1200-3000 unique hits a day. It all depends on who links to you, not how much traffic you actually get… that determines your standing. That just isn’t an accurate accounting.
I like the way you’re prioritizing. People love to hear from guys in the force so whatever you have to post, people will love to read. I know I do!

Steve, I actually DROPPED from a Large Mammal, which I’ve been for over a year, to a Marsupial! I get more hits! Can’t trust the ecosystem..

Amy,
Ya know what’s weird is, these sites that rank us, so to speak, do have a system, it just acts strange and not to my particular logic …
WOW!!! That’s AWESOME that you are averaging 1200-1300 uniques a day! You really are putting in the extra-effort on your site, and your writing _is_ what gets the hits! I am glad that your traffic is representative of your hard work - and your message!
God Bless!!!
