Crack Open the Memory Bank, Herk

Alrighty then … this post is for Herk over at Herk’s view on Life. I was commenting on a post he just made about recon planes, specifically ones that qualify for COIN (counter insurgency) missions, as he posted a bit about the OV-10. That was a model I built waaay back in my days … and I remember to this day.

As I was commenting, I remembered Herk is “herk” ’cause he worked on C-130s - as did I. Well, since I know that he’s climbed around on a few, and I suspect under like I (Doppler Nav radome is in the belly just behind the nose wheel well - well, sorta, and no pun intended there). So, Herk, name this item:

Guess This Item, Dude!

And, for those of you that are curious and have never seen me post this before, you may guess as well! It’s funny, I almost had a contractor who has been working on our house throw this away! All the trouble I went through to get this HOME says, that guy was gonna get an upside the head!

So, Herk, here’s to the good old bird!

Well, I can say this, it is a C-130 NESA window. I have seen some nesa stats in some strange places, but I have never seen one that close to the corner…might rule out the Pilot and Co-pilot’s main windows and might be the center? Whaen I first looked at it, I thought for sure it had to be the Pilot’s window…hmmm To be honest, I only had to change out one window and it was the swing window.

I’ll say the very center window.

BTW, If you can get your hands on some C-141 windows…they make great coffee tables…

Is it the proverbial screen door from a submarine? I guess not, being you’re Air Force and all.

    Herk,

Well, the Chief in the ISO Dock where I picked this up said it was the center - you’re right! And, the pilot’s window is about the same shape, but I didn’t question the Chief. :)

This window is going to become a small side table, when I get a house big enough for me to have a den. :) Right now, it is a thorn in my wife’s side, so to speak! But, she’s learned to accept the fact that this window is NOT going to go away. I moved that from Rhein Main AFB, to Offutt AFB, to Beale AFB - then multiple apartments … ‘83 to today this window has been lots of places a C-130 has NEVER BEEN! :)

I’ll post the story about how I “scored” this window …

    Hey Laurie!!!

Heh, of course I had an opportunity to be in subs! But, I chose to go into the Air Force and stay _ABOVE_ water … :)

My Uncle worked on subs, so, I think I made the better choice (for me).

How is everything going, Laurie!? I’m gonna be on the East Coast this next week for business. A couple of hours from you, to the south, in NJ!!!

Yes, there are software companies in New Jersey! :)

I need to take some pictures of my treasures :)

Maybe I shouldn’t… :) Might get into some trouble ;)

  6. Fix4RSO Says:

Herk — 5×5 on the might get into trouble … luckily my window was grease penciled and “on the heap” … :)

  7. HerkEng Says:

oh no, mine are all legit (well, except for that one thing….) its just having to explain yourself…and prove it.

  8. Fix4RSO Says:

Herk - ahhh, so, if one had to _prove_ the circumstance, I’m pretty hosed as well. I think the SMSgt that said, “Eh, take it, it’s defective anyway” is nowhere to be found! :)

  9. HerkEng Says:

    Yep, you’d be screwed!!

Nice game, I have something I am going to post this week… It will be much harder but, I am sure you’d have no problem with it…
